Founded in 1967 by conductor Joseph Proctor, The Lewisham Concert Band soon found fame for its numerous BBC Radio 2 broadcasts during the 70’s and 80’s on “Friday Night is Music Night” and “Listen to the Band”. Today, under the musical direction of Leslie Lake (formerly the bass trombonist with ENO and MD of the Locke Brass Consort) it is still one of the South East’s most highly regarded wind bands and consists of professional and amateur musicians based in London and the Home Counties.
Performance venues ranging from Somerset to Norfolk have included Hever Castle, Southwark Cathedral, Epsom Playhouse, Catford Broadway, and Blackheath Concert Halls. The band has twice undertaken tours to Berlin to represent the borough of Lewisham.
